City Council Committees

     Four Committees each composed of five alderman review resolutions and ordinances assigned to that committee.  Each committee will make recommendations to the entire City Council.  The following committee information lists the 2009 committee chairs and vice-chairs.  All meetings are held in the City Council Chambers in the Municipal Center West, 300 So. 7th, 3rd Floor, Springfield.

Finance Committee

    The Finance Committee reviews personnel transactions, committee and commission appointments, appropriations, grants and other monetary concerns. The committee meets at 5:15 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.  Click on the Finance Committee Link above to see the schedule of committee meetings for 2009.  

     Committee members include:  Gail Simpson (Vice-Chair), Mark Mahoney, Debbie Cimarossa (Chairman), Kris Theilen and Tim Griffin.


Utilities Committee

     The Public Utilities Committee reviews all operational concerns of the water and electrical supply system of city owned utility, City, Water, Light and Power. The committee meets at 5:15 p.m. on the Wednesday of each month prior to the next council meeting.  Click on the Utilities Committee Link above to see the schedule of committee meetings for 2009.  

       Committee members include Frank Edwards, Gail Simpson (Vice-Chairman), Frank Kunz., Sam Cahnman (Chairman) and Steven Dove. 


Public Works Committee

     The Public Works Committee deals with annexations and the maintenance, repair, and construction of the city's streets, alleys and public way areas.  The committee meets at 5:15 p.m. on the Thursday of each month prior to the next council meeting. Public Affairs & Safety Committee

     The Public Affairs and Safety Committee deals with legal issues, community and economic development, recreation, health, fair housing, human relations, library, police, fire, emergency communications and associated community safety services.  The committee meets at 5:15 p.m. on the first and third Monday of each month.  Click on the Public Affairs and Safety Committee Link above to see the schedule of committee meetings for 2009.
